As of 1 November 2007, no hand weapons (small-arms, handguns i.e. pistols/revolvers) will be accepted or may be transported on an Airlink aircraft.
From 1 November 2007, rifles and shotguns will be transported to and from the following destinations only -
- OR Tambo International, Johannesburg;
- Cape Town;
- Durban;
- Port Elizabeth;
- East London;
- Bloemfontein;
- Polokwane;
- Phalaborwa;
- Pietermaritzburg;
- Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, Nelspruit;
- Upington;
- Kimberley (R200 for loading and R200 off loading per hunting rifle and shotgun) no fee to be paid for service at CPT, only in
Kimberley, arrangement between South African Express and private person;
- Bulawayo;
- Harare;
- Lusaka;
- Ndola;
- Maputo;
- Beira;
- Pemba;
- Antananarivo;
- Manzini;
- Maseru;
- Tete;
- Nampula;
If you wish to carry rifles and shotguns as Checked Baggage it is your responsibility to inform yourself of, and ensure that you have obtained, all required clearances from the government authorities of the country of departure and the country of destination and have notified us by at least three (3) Business Days before commencing your carriage.
Rifles and shotguns will not be accepted as Checked Baggage, unless approved by us no less than three (3) Days before your flight. Rifles must be unloaded with the safety catch on, and suitably packed and accompanied by all documents legally required by the countries of departure, destination and any stopovers. Only five (5) kilogram of ammunition is allowed per Passenger. Ammunition will never be carried in the cabin or flight deck of the aircraft. Ammunition must be packed separately and securely from the fire-arm case.
Weapons such as, for example, antique firearms, swords, knives, toy or replica guns, bows and arrows and similar items may be accepted as Checked Baggage only at our discretion, subject to prior approval by us, but will not be permitted in the cabin or flight deck of the aircraft.
We will have no liability or responsibility where any item accepted under clauses 8.5.2 and/or 8.5.3 is removed from your Checked Baggage and/or retained or destroyed by security personnel, government officials, airport officials, police or military officials or other airlines involved in your carriage.
